BSAC Ocean Diver Course

The BSAC Ocean Diver course is the entry-level open water scuba diving certification from the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), one of the world’s oldest and most respected diving training organisations.

This internationally recognised qualification is designed for complete beginners and provides you with the essential knowledge, practical skills, and confidence required to dive safely and enjoyably in open water environments.

Throughout the course, you will develop strong diving fundamentals that focus on safety, awareness, and real-world diving competence, giving you a solid foundation for your future scuba diving journey.

Course Contents & Highlights

• Learn essential scuba diving principles and safety procedures
• Use basic diving equipment correctly and breathe comfortably underwater
• Master buoyancy control and efficient underwater movement techniques
• Plan and manage simple dives with a buddy in open water
• Practice stress recognition and basic emergency response skills
• Dive safely using Nitrox breathing mixes (up to 36% oxygen)
• Combine theory lessons, confined water training, and open water dives

Course Requirements

• Minimum age of 14 years (or as specified by BSAC standards)
• Basic swimming ability and water confidence
• Good general physical health and fitness for diving
• Medical self-declaration or diving medical clearance if required

Duration & Training Structure

The BSAC Ocean Diver course typically includes six theory modules, multiple confined water sessions (such as pool training), and at least four open water dives conducted under the supervision of a qualified BSAC instructor.

Training qualifies you to dive to a maximum depth of 20 metres in a variety of open water environments such as seas, lakes, quarries, and rivers.

This qualification is recognised worldwide and allows you to dive with another Ocean Diver or under the supervision of a BSAC Dive Manager or Instructor.

Upon completion, you will be well prepared to continue your diving education with advanced training such as Advanced Ocean Diver and beyond.

Note: Transfers outside Hurghada (Makadi, El Gouna, Soma Bay, Safaga, Sahl Hashish) require an additional fee of €20.
